Information for Groups

Spring Bank Camp is an excellent weekend for all sections of Scouting and Guiding from Brownie/Cub age upwards. We provide all manner of activities from adventurous, such as climbing and archery, to creative, such as the arts and crafts village and backwoods cooking, to just plain fun ones, such as our massive assortment of inflatables... so there's plenty of keep your young people occupied while they're here.

For any group leader thinking of bringing their group to Spring Bank Camp, here's everything that you need to know to be able to make a booking.

What do you need to do for/at Spring Bank Camp?

We organise a full activity programme for the participants, starting on the Saturday morning and finishing at lunch time on the Monday. All activities are supervised by our 300+ strong team of volunteer staff, so during the activity sessions, it's unlikely that you'll see your young people (unless you want to join in the activities with them of course!).

This means that all you really need to do is:

  • Organise your camping area (i.e. your tents, your camping equipment etc)
  • Organise catering arrangements for your group
  • Provide the usual pastoral and first aid cover for your group members

You'll also need to complete all necessary forms (e.g., NAN or REN) to come to Spring Bank Camp, just like you do for any other event. These must be submitted to whoever has to approve them for your group in exactly the same way as for any other camp.

Spring Bank Camp do not provide any organised activites on the Friday evening although, setting up camp and then (for those who haven't been to Drum Hill before or for a while) a wander around site to find where everything is can be an excellent first night activity. Just be aware that, although we do encourage the young people to go and explore the site, there will be site vehicles moving around site on Friday as we help other groups get their kit to their pitches... so if your young people are going to be allowed free time to wonder and explore our 80 acre wooded campsite, make sure that they are aware of this fact and just check before running out across any of the site roads.

We will send you a full "Leader's Information Pack" with everything you need to know, a few weeks before the start of the camp.

What do we do for you for the weekend?

As mentioned, we provide a full activity programme over the weekend. This includes:

  • Adventurous activities such as archery and climbing
  • Creative activities in our Arts and Crafts Village
  • Scouting/Guiding skills in the Backwoods Cooking and Knife/Axe area
  • A full programme of competition events in the main arena
  • An evening entertainments programme in the Main Marquee
  • See Participants page for more detailed list.

During the camp, we will have a safety team on duty 24/7. Although first-aid cover for your group's is your responsibility, we do have a first aid team on site who are there in case you need backup or support. And the campsite service team are also on hand, should you find a problem with any of the facilities on-site. The site services can also help with any problems you may have with your gas appliances during the weekend, and the site also sells Calor and Camping Gaz bottles should you need them - full details about gas orders (prices, sizes etc) are available from within the booking system.
